Ambelia is a beautiful holiday village nestling in the mountains a couple of kilometres East of Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus. Situated just outside the famous old village of Bellapais, the complex comprises 30 privately-owned villas and 20 studio apartments surrounded by lush greenery. Facilities available to our guests include the swimming pool (with cocktail area), the sunbathing terrace with sun-loungers and natural shade, the restaurant and the bar.
Villa number 9 is located just up the hill from the bar/restaurant area. Its balcony is shaded from the heat of the sun for most of the day and sheltered from sight of the other villas.
Number 9 boasts a superb view of Bellapais village, with its beautiful Gothic abbey and Lawrence Durrell's house (made famous in his book Bitter Lemons). The view below from the balcony is framed by olive, cypress and carob trees; in the distance the Mediterranean shimmers, and on a clear day the Taurus mountains of Turkey are visible.

The town of Kyrenia is 10 minutes drive down the hill from Ambelia. Its harbour is one of the most beautiful in the Mediterraean. This view from the imposing Kyrenia Castle shows the harbour at the height of its summer activities. Surrounding it are old merchants' warehouses, most of which are now the bars and restaurants which form the heart of Kyrenia's evening and night-life.

The Kyrenia Range of mountains rises to 1km in height. The range runs the whole length of the Northern coast, forming a backdrop behind the beautiful beaches, until it tapers into the sea at the end of the Karpaz Peninsula. Three Byzantine Castles sit on top of the mountain range: St Hilarion, Bufavento and Kantara. This view from St Hilarion Castle (built to guard the pass from Kyrenia through the mountains to Nicosia and the interior of the island) shows Kyrenia bathed in summer sunshine. By the sea in the centre is the old harbour (detailed in the picture above); to its right is the town's modern port with its huge breakwater. St Hilarion Castle - one of the "must-see" sites in Northern Cyprus - is 20 minutes drive from Ambelia Village. |
